Optional Status of Solomon Beach
Dear Sir:
I and my friends
are considering vacationing at St. Thomas this summer, specifically to
visit Solomon Beach.
However we are very disturbed to hear that Rangers
are ticketing beach goers for nudity. If this is the case it is not worth
us coming, as we are all long time naturists and members of the American
Association for Nude Recreation and also of The
Naturist Society, who have a combined membership of 77,000 members.
In my 25 years experience as a nude beach goer at
clothing optional beaches in the U.S. and Europe, I have never seen any
trouble at clothing optional beaches. In fact, nude beach goers are knownby
beach authorities as not only being well behaved, but people who keep their
beaches clean.
As an example, the nude beach at Cap D'Agde in southern
France which I vacationed at lastyear,
is three miles long with hundreds of naturists from all over the world
there in the summer. There is minimum law enforcement, and the beach is
always extremely clean.
If there is no trouble at Solomon Beach and the beach
is kept clean, I would ask that the Park authorities stop ticketing beach
goers for nudity. The nude beach goers are only asking that this one beach
in the U.S. Virgin Islands be hassle free, and a place where they can relax
and practice their life style.
